Steven Gerrard is again close to becoming Sevco manager after being given promises about his transfer war-chest.

According to reports in The Sun and the Daily Record, Stewart Robertson and Mark Allen were able to tell the former Liverpool skipper what he wanted to hear after talks in London.

Neither report mentions Dave King’s input or what sort of war-chest will be available but it seems that Gerrard has been satisfied by what he heard in the talks.

Keeping the news upbeat should ensure that Saturday’s match against Kilmarnock doesn’t become a day of protest as the Ibrox company attempts to avoid finishing fourth on the SPFL Premiership.

Gerrard’s appointment should ensure that most season tickets are renewed but how he is provided with a war-chest is another story.

Sevco already owe directors £17.7m in soft loans with Close Brothers keeping the lights on in February with a £3m emergency loan.

Finding anyone to ‘invest’ in that sort of enterprise looks a difficult task even without the Court of Session action hovering over King.

With no more than three players in the squad thought to be of a decent standard Director of Football Mark Allen will be looking to move on at least a dozen players to create space for the Gerrard Revolution.
