Sevco are closing in on the double signing of Martin Skrtel and Harry Wilson.

According to a report in The Sun a £2.7m fee has been agreed with Fenerbahce for the veteran defender while Wilson will join on a season long loan.

The fee for Skrtel would be a record deal for the six-year-old club that posted losses of £6.7m last year on a turnover of £29.2m.

Fenerbahce paid Liverpool £5.4m for the defender in 2016 with one year left to run on his contract.

Central defence is one of a number of problem areas for Steven Gerrard to sort out with Bruno Alves proving to be one of the biggest flops of the season.

With David Bates walking away to Hamburg and Russell Martin returning to Norwich Gerrard will inherit Alves, Fabio Cardosa and Young McCrorie as central defenders.

Wilson spent the second half of the current season on loan at Hull City and has been told that he has no future at Anfield.

There is no indication of any players leaving Ibrox although loan signings Martin, Sean Goss and Jason Cummings have been returned to their parent clubs.
