Steven Gerrard has been given his first lesson in Sevco finances by Martin Skrtel.

For three weeks Sevco supporters have been told that the stars of the game are on their way to Ibrox for the thrill of working with the former Liverpool u-18 coach.

Back in the real world players move clubs for money, the more the merrier.

With no chance of ‘investment’ and no clubs interested in their current players reality is about to pay a visit to Ibrox.

Supporters have loyally bought up season tickets but when they turn up for next season’s action Skrtel, Jermaine Defoe and Lucas will be playing elsewhere while Gerrard tries to turn Josh Windass and Declan John into world-beaters.

Speaking to Slovakian website Pro Futbal, Skrtel’s agent Karol Csonto admitted: “Rangers are interested in Martin, I personally talked to Steven Gerrard about this possibility.

Martin has sincerely said it would be an honour for him to play under Steven’s direction for three years.

There are, however, complex financial matters. They are terribly far apart.”

Sevco are expected to post a loss of around £5m for the year to June 2018 but the real burden is the contracts handed out by Pedro Caixinha.

Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera are on deals until 2020 while Bruno Alves has another 12 months to run on his contract. Those three players are understood to be picking up close to £100,000 per week.
