Mikey Johnston brightened up the close season for Celtic fans with a stunning solo goal for Scotland against England.

Scot Gemmill’s side went down to a 3-1 defeat but it was the opening goal from the teenage Celt that sent supporters to their keyboards.

Johnston showed the full range of his skills, close control, a burst of pace, confidence and a great finish to delight the fans in the stadium and watching online.

Brendan Rodgers gave the bhoy from Stepps his first team debut in April 2017 with a three year contract signed straight after impressing against St Johnstone.

A thigh muscle injury in January put a halt on his progress but Johnston knuckled down in training to finish the season with an impressive display in Scott Brown’s testimonial.

Next season will be critical in his development but with Rodgers keen to bring in more Academy kids alongside James Forrest, Callum McGregor and Kieran Tierney, Johnston will be given every chance to bridge the gap into the Celtic first team.
