Chris Sutton was under attack from some Celtic fans after his ‘Good Riddance’ message to Stuart Armstrong.
News that Celtic and Southampton had agreed a £7m fee for the midfielder came as no shock with little sign of progress from either party in talks over a new contract.
Armstrong played a big part in Celtic’s Invincible season but after seeing many ‘badge-kissers’ come and go there is no sign of heart-break or anger about the departure of the former Dundee United man.
While Sutton took a more emotional ‘fans’ type view of the move many Celtic supporters were pragmatic and even sympathetic to the midfielders’ decision.
There is a contradiction here at times. If we decide the time and choosing of selling a player then thats fine. If the player decides then its not fine? Armstrong has been a model pro with us and we are getting a good fee for him. Good luck to him.

This day and age Chris, if it didn’t suit Celtic he’d have been out on his arse. Served well when he was here, always honest, worked hard and was a real difference maker. Good luck Stu ????????

He has aspirations to play in the English Premiership, nothing wrong with that. He doesn’t owe Celtic anything.

Very harsh. He honoured his contract and is entitled to go.
I wish he was staying but life goes on.— Bazza (@BazzaB0y) June 22, 2018
Why did he have to give them respect canna remind you saying that when he left Utd

Don’t think it’s good riddance Chris, he’s been good for Celtic and Celtic have been good for him. Good business and good luck to him.

In all fairness… sad to see him go.. but a no brainer imo.. ntcham has kept him out the team this year and with him having 1 year left n we get 7-10 million.. would like us to bring in john mcginn whos a exciting prospect

In the past Celtic have been criticised for being too keen to cash in on selling players but that attitude ended when Brendan Rodgers took charge.
Neither Kris Ajer, Tom Rogic or Odsonne Edouard grew up in the Kieran Tierney mould but all three have been happy to commit significant chunks of their careers to playing for Celtic.
Dedryck Boyata may be in a similar position to Armstrong but whoever leaves, under Rodgers there is no panic with replacements already at the club or in the pipeline.
