Goldson’s title warning to Celtic

Connor Goldson has done a Bruno Alves and warned Celtic that he has come to Scotland to take the SPFL title.

It seems that new arrivals at Ibrox are given a tired old script the minute they sign up to deliver soothing messages to the gullible that next season is going to be all-right.

While Alves was a Portuguese international arriving after playing a full season in Serie A for Cagliari, Goldson has a much lower profile in the game.

The former Shrewsbury starlet played in just three EPL matches last season for Brighton, in February 2017 he underwent heart surgery and revealed that he could have died on the pitch if he hadn’t been operated on.

So far it’s been a journeyman career for the 25-year-old but after a week inside Sevco it seems that he is about to deal Celtic a crushing blow.

Obviously, Celtic have had a good few years but we have to now put that behind us,” he told the Daily Record. “It’s a new season, a fresh season.

And if we approach every game right – whether it be the smallest game in the league or the Celtic game – we have to go into every game believing we can win them.

Listen, everyone knows we are going to go into the season being underdogs. But that is something you have to do in football and underdogs can always win things.

We have got to want to win something. It has been a few years now since Rangers have won anything. With the fan-base and the size of the club, the fans are craving success.

That was a reason for me coming here – I want to come here and win things. That has got to be our aim. We have to do as well as we can in the league, we have to do as well as we can in the cups and as well as we can in the Europa League.”

Last season Sevco finished third in the SPFL, lost in two cup semi-finals and were knocked out of the Europa League at the first qualifying round.
