Forgotten defender Cristian Gamboa made a 72 minute appearance for Costa Rica against England last night at Elland Road.
Although Costa Rica lost 2-0 the Celtic defender looked comfortable playing against some of the biggest names in the English Premier League.
Whatever he does at the World Cup Finals in Russia however it’s unlikely that it will improve Gamboa’s prospects at Celtic.
He impressed me tonight. Looked fit fast and strong in the tackle. Was good also with the ball at his feet.

Good to see somebody managed to find him. He’s been missing since we signed him. Even when you could tell Lustig was burnt out we still didn’t give him a chance, play him or sell him. That said in Brendan we trust ???????????? HH

A year ago after an impressive debut season with the hoops challenging Mikael Lustig for a place, Gamboa opted to play for his nation in the Gold Cup rather than take a break and prepare for Celtic’s Champions League qualifiers.
That decision and the emergence of Anthony Ralston restricted the 28-year-old to just three domestic appearances in the 17/18 season.
With a year left on his contract it seems certain that Gamboa will move on from Celtic this summer with his next club well aware that international football is the defender’s priority.
