Tom Rogic’s World Cup dream is over after Australia lost 2-0 to Peru.

The Socceroos required a win coupled with a victory for France over Denmark to progress but that never looked likely with the other match in Group C ending goal-less with both of the European nations progressing to the last 16.

Australia had the bulk of possession in the first half with Rogic the main creative influence although it was Peru that opened the scoring through Carillo in the 18th minute.

The Celtic man showed some great touches but had little support in attacking areas as Peru held onto their lead without too much drama.

Five minutes after the interval a shot from Paolo Guerrero was deflected around goalkeeper Matt Ryan leaving Australia needing three goals to progress.

Tim Cahill was sent on to appear in his fourth World Cup Finals but there was no fairytale ending with the Socceroos finishing bottom of Group of Group C with one point from three matcheS.

With 20 minutes left to play Rogic was replaced by former Celt Jackson Irvine.

Rogic is likely to miss both legs of Celtic’s Champions League qualifier against Alashkert of Armenia but should be available if the hoops progress into the second round.
