Mikael Lustig was in dreamland today as Sweden pulled off a shock 3-0 win over Mexico to reach the last 16 of the World Cup Finals at the expense of Germany.

The heart-ache of losing a stoppage time goal to the Germans four days earlier was washed away as the Mexicans were cut down to size.

Sweden needed to get a better result than Germany, who were playing South Korea at the same time, if they were to reach the knock out stage.

At half-time both matches were goal-less but things changed quickly in the second half.

Augustinsson opened the scoring for Sweden on the hour mark before Andreas Granqvist doubled their lead in the 62nd minute.

By the time Alavarez scored an own goal all eyes were on the Germany match where the holders needed a goal to go through at Mexico’s expense.

In stoppage time South Korea found the net and although it was initially ruled offside that decision was over-ruled by VAR, as Germany chased a pointless equaliser the Koreans scored a second goal!
