Mikey Johnston didn’t take any consolation from his wonder goal against England at the Toulon Tournament.

The teenage Celtic winger gave Scotland a half time lead but three goals after the break meant that it was the English that went through to the final against Mexico.

Johnston’s performances during the tournament confirmed his potential after a handful of first team appearances for Celtic.

Speaking after the defeat from England the young winger told The Sun: “It was a decent goal but I’m gutted about the result. When the dust settles I’ll probably look back and think it was a good goal.

Right now I’m disappointed to not be going to the final but we have to be encouraged by what we’ve done.”

Johnston will soon be back in pre-season training with Celtic ahead of the Champions League qualifiers.

The hoops will find out their first and second round opponents when the draw is made on June 19 with the first match scheduled for July 10 or 11.

Johnston has been at Celtic for over a decade and picked up some impressive reviews during the UEFA Youth Cup where the hoops were drawn against Bayern Munich, Paris Saint Germain and Anderlecht.
