Bruno Alves is digging in for a pay off from Sevco before he will agree to join Vitoria Guimaraes.

According to a report in the Daily Record the Portuguese side have had an offer knocked back for the 36-year-old defender.

Alves was the highest profile signing of last summer when Pedro Caixinha agreed to pay £28,000/week on a two year deal to take the defender from Calgliari.

Sevco now find themselves in the same situation as the Italian side but there is no prospect of Guimaraes matching Alves’ salary.

Unless Sevco offer the defender a significant pay off to compensate for his drop in salary they’ll be left with an ageing star on top money running down the final months of his new deal.

Alves started just 17 matches last season and will miss the Europa League first round qualifier due to Portugal’s involvement in the World Cup in Russia.
