Even in close season it seems that the thoughts of BBC Scotland’s sports department doesn’t extend much beyond gathering the pointless thoughts of former Rangers and Sevco players.

A P45 from Ibrox seems to be an essential qualification for an appearance with the state broadcaster with a so-called EBT account coming as a bonus.

Does anyone really care what street-fighter Mohsni thinks about Tunisia?

When was the last time that a goalkeeper signing for a newly relegated club became newsworthy?

More importantly why did Billy Dodds deny on air being paid through an ‘EBT’ only for a rare BBC Scotland news investigation to discover evidence of the payment?

Last Saturday Kenny Miller and Kris Boyd joined Chic Young in the studio to pick up some easy fees to keep them ticking over through the summer.

Plenty of cosy chat follow followed without anything significant being discussed. As the Ibrox glory days were recalled in dewy eyed detail not a comment was made about how Her Majesty was denied revenue and custom or thoughts given to the honest clubs and players denied footballing glory and bonus payments by a tax scam.

Apparently BBC Scotland are still in dispute with their friends at Ibrox over a report by Chris McLaughlin almost three years ago.

It seems that the limited contacts book at the sports desk of the state broadcaster has been inherited from a former Rangers News or Rangers TV reporter.

Last weekend Tom Boyd, Simon Donnelly, Jackie McNamara and others got together for a 20th anniversary celebration of Scotland reaching the World Cup Finals in France.

Could none of those players have been enticed into the studio, perhaps they could have shared their thoughts on the record Scottish transfer fee paid out for a player that will pay Income Tax and National Insurance in the same manner as their opponents.

Next week Alex Rae and Steven Thompson are expected to discuss reports from Sevco’s Spanish training camp while Thomas Buffel previews England’s match against Belgium.
