Jason Holt is a transfer target for Fleetwood Town.

Last season the former Hearts midfielder wore the armband of dignity at Sevco but has already been told that he is surplus to requirements by Steven Gerrard.

According to a report in The Sun Holt will have talks with Fleetwood boss Joey Barton today over a move to the League One outfit. No transfer fee is expected.

The all-action midfielder signed up to the Mark Warburton revolution from Hearts in 2015 and was given a new contract until 2020 after helping Sevco win promotion to the top flight.

Life among full-time opponents has proved much tougher for wee Holty even though he fought his way back from the wilderness to become a regular under Graeme Murty.

Last week Plymouth were credited with an interest in the 25-year-old but it’s likely that the chance to work with Barton will be too good for Holt to resist.
