Davie Hay believes that Celtic should sign up John McGinn.

The Hibs midfielder has a year left on his Easter Road deal and has been linked with a couple of English sides as well as a move to Celtic.

While Hay isn’t likely to be in the loop for Brendan Rodgers’ transfer plans the fact that a Celtic Ambassador is discussing a transfer lends the story credibility.

Writing in the Evening Times Hay said:

MIDFIELD is the strongest part of their team right now but I feel John McGinn will be a really good acquisition if he signs for Celtic this summer.

Reports suggest Brendan Rodgers is weighing up a bid for the player, who is also rumoured to be interesting Rangers and Sunderland.

Everything depends on Celtic confirming a bid and Hibs being prepared to sell him but I think it is a possibility and I think the boy would come.

Obviously, if he did arrive, he would face a challenge just to get a first team place.

For now, Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham have the two deeper roles sewn up, and you also have Stuart Armstrong who can come in.

There are more attacking type players like Tom Rogic and Callum McGregor so Celtic are very strong there but you can’t have too many good players and I do think he would be a good acquisition.

Celtic also have Nir Bitton and Eboue Kouassi as midfield options but Rodgers has praised McGinn in the past.

The 23-year-old is the best player in Scotland outside of Celtic but plays in an area of the park that Celtic are very well covered in.

Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham established themselves as the first pick midfielders as Celtic swept to the treble.

McGinn has certainly impressed in matches against Celtic but it remains to be seen whether he could handle the step up in quality while having to force his way into the first team picture.
