Ewan Henderson and Stephen Welsh will join Brendan Rodgers’ first team squad for the pre-season trip to Austria.

The Celtic boss is keen to give younger players their opportunity but is selective over gets the chance to make an impression.

Both players have trained regularly with the first team squad with Henderson, younger brother of Liam, getting a 10 minute run out in the end of season draw with Kilmarmock.

With three matches in the space of a week both players will get the chance to impress with Rodgers likely to change his entire team at half-time in each match.

Henderson and Welsh are both in the 2000 group that has been brought through the Celtic Academy, progressing through each year group as other players drop in and out.

Midfielder Henderson shows all the same mannerisms as his older brother and can play in any of the midfield positions.

Welsh is an old-beyond-his-years defender who reads the game well and concentrates on defending rather than breaking forward.

Both players broke into the u-17 set up a year early during the 2015/16 season which culminated in a memorable 4-0 Glasgow Cup win over Sevco at Ibrox.

Last season they were both regulars in the Development League side as well as playing in the UEFA Youth League.

Celtic’s first match in Austria is on Wednesday against SK Vorwarts Steyr with a 5.30pm kick off, Celtic Park Time.
