Fleetwood Town have refused to match Jason Holt’s Sevco wages with the midfielder joining the League One outfit on a season long loan.

The former Hearts midfielder was left out of the squad that flew out to Spain for pre-season training and today agreed a switch to reunite with Joey Barton.

Holt is under contract at Ibrox until June 2020 and will return to the wage roll in May.

New boss Steven Gerrard is keen to move on as many as possible of last years failures even though there is no prospect of anything coming in in terms of transfer fees.

Over the last week Joe Dodoo and Michael O’Halloran have both been taken off the wage bill although the former Leicester striker has only been off loaded on a season long loan with Blackpool picking up the tab.

Harry Forrester, Eduardo Herrera, Fabio Cardoso and Lee Wallace were all left out of the squad that flew to Spain as Gerrard tries to put his stamp on the squad he inherited from Graeme Murty.
