Record blogger goes off the radar

The Daily Record has handed a log-in to madcap Ibrox blogger Alex Moody to warn Celtic that a dark cloud has settled over Parkhead with the arrival of the force that is Steven Gerrard.

In 2015 Moody claimed that the use of disguised remuneration, which the Ibrox club claimed was EBT payments, were on a par with the financial advantage that bigger clubs enjoyed worldwide over their league rivals.

Howling at the moon seems to be his stock in trade rather than admitting that the old club cheated themselves to death or that the new manager may need two or three years of running up massive losses before shaking free of Aberdeen and Hibs to challenge Celtic.

Despite the disastrous revolutions of Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha no lessons have been learned with an unproven Liverpool youth coach about to turn Scottish football on it’s head.

After paying reluctant testimony to Celtic’s dominance on and off the park Moody gets around to the meat of his article.

Moody claims:

The balance of power may, finally, be about to shift. Nothing lasts for ever.

The calibre of this remarkable man is exceptional. In a stellar career, from 1998 to 2016, he played 748 club games plus 114 for his country.

He is the only player to have scored in a FA Cup Final, League Cup Final, UEFA Cup Final and Champions League Final, winning them all.

In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pele insisted the Liverpool and England skipper was the best footballer in the world.

That’s the sort of experience and pedigree which most managers, including Rodgers, can only dream about.

On the pitch, his skills were abundant – long and short passing, lung-bursting box-to-box runs, ferocious tackling, lethal finishing. A one-man game-changer oozing leadership, drive, vision, courage.

Off the pitch, he has the charisma and credibility that only comes from a glittering career. He’s been there, done that and then some.

He also handles the media well – concise, insightful, intelligent. No daft promises.

The Mills and Boon stuff continues with Gerrard estimated to have a personal fortune of between £60-100m- which won’t be much use when Josh Windass slips in front of goal against Hibs allowing Neil Lennon’s side to break up the park and go further ahead at Ibrox.

Moody added:

He doesn’t do easy. He’s grafted since he was a boy on a tough Liverpool estate to become a global superstar. Now there are other mountains to scale. His DNA won’t let him chill.

He’s not swapping a luxury mansion in Liverpool with his wife and four children for a solitary apartment in Glasgow just to play second fiddle.

He achieved as much as you can on the field, now he wants to do it from the bench. Those who think he’ll soon be sent back down the road with his tail between his legs are in for a shock – and a large helping of humble pie.

Let’s go’ wasn’t just a sound-bite. He meant it.

Since his appointment Gerrard hasn’t set foot inside Ibrox, preferring to go scouting and partying in the south of France and Ibiza.

Perhaps when Graeme Murty returns to the dug out Moody may show some humility, perhaps.
