Anthony Stokes is training with St Mirren in a bid to find a new club.

The former Celtic striker left Hibs in January after a number of disciplinary issues with Neil Lennon and had a short spell in Greece with Apollon Smyrni.

New St Mirren boss Alan Stubbs would love to be reunited with the striker that scored twice in the 2016 Scottish Cup Final to give Hibs the trophy for the first time in 114 years.

Since that Hampden high Stokes’ career has been on a downward spiral with Brendan Rodgers quickly cutting him loose from Celtic.

Owen Coyle took him to Blackburn at the start of the 2016/17 season but when Tony Mowbray took charge the one time Arsenal striker left by mutual consent.

Stokes started last season in scoring form for Hibs but had his contract cancelled soon after an incident during the club’s winter training stint in Portugal.

St Mirren are unlikely to be Stokes’ first choice of club but with his recent track record there may be a chance that he could be re-united with Stubbs as the Paisley side return to the top flight.
