Mikey Johnston has been voted the Third Best Player at the Toulon Tournment in France.

The Celtic winger had an outstanding competition highlighted by his magnificent solo goal in the semi-final against the England u-21 side.

Despite that goal Scotland lost 3-1 with the English going on to win the competition with a 2-1 win over Mexico in the final. Scotland, coached by Scot Gemmill lost the third place play-off on penalties to Turkey.

Johnston only turned 19 in April and has already put down a few markers on Brendan Rodgers’ first team.

His combination of skill and speed is lethal in the modern game and something that the Celtic boss is keen to develop into a top team regular.

A thigh muscle injury picked up in January curtailed his season but he battled back to feature in a few Development League matches before an oustanding display in Scott Brown’s testimonial match against Ireland.
