Celtic could miss out on upto £500,000 with Bari on the brink of bankruptcy.

In January Liam Henderson joined the Serie B side in a cut price deal which included a sell-on clause.

After losing out in the promotion play-off’s Henderson was linked with moves to Fiorentina and Parma.

That move seems certain to go through but with the club on the brink of bankruptcy Henderson will be able to move as a free agent.

Reporting on the bankruptcy of the club Sports Illustrated state:

Historic Italian side Bari will be playing their football in Serie D next season after failing to register for Serie B.

The 110-year-old club have been left with no choice but to restart in the amateur leagues, with Serie D being the highest.

This is a bad day, not only for football in Bari, but for the whole city,” mayor Antonio Decaro said via Gianluca Di Marzio’s website.

It’s a day of defeat, which burns 1,000 times more than any defeat on the pitch. We tried everything possible, I perhaps even went beyond my remit as a mayor.

I did it as a citizen and also as a fan.

Henderson broke into the Celtic side towards the end of the 13/14 season, scoring his first goal in the 5-1 title clincher away to Partick Thistle.

Under Ronny Deila he spent loan spells at Rosenborg and Hibs but spent last season under Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.

With no progress towards a new contract he left for Italy in January 2018 for a token fee with Celtic’s interest secured by a sell on clause.

That clause now looks worthless with the midfielder able to move on to a new club and pocket a substantial signing on fee.
