Two years ago Anthony Stokes was basking in the glory of scoring a double for Hibs in their Scottish Cup Final win over Sevco- yesterday he signed for Iranian side Tractor Sazi.

Among his new team-mates will be Harry Forrester, recently of Wimbledon and Sevco.

In the summer of 2016 Stokes had plenty to look forward to if not quite having the world at his feet.

When Brendan Rodgers killed off the chance of a return to Celtic there was the consolation of a four year contract at Blackburn Rovers to sign.

As Adam Rooney demonstrated by joining Salford City the chance of a four year contract at Blackburn is something most SPFL players outside of Celtic would jump at.

New manager Tony Mowbray, replacing Owen Coyle decided to mutually terminate the Blackburn contract.

Six months at Hibs last season provided plenty of goals but ended after a disciplinary issue in Portugal during the winter break with refuge found with Apollon Smirnis of Greece.

Recently Stokes was linked with St Mirren and Shamrock Rovers, few would be on his stay with Tractor Sazi being a lengthy one.
