Massimo Donati wants to manage Celtic!

The Italian hung up his boots at the end of last season and is looking to break into the demanding world of management.

Donati spent two seasons at Celtic where he grew to love the Scottish lifestyle so much that he signed for Hamilton Accies in 2016 before winding down his career at St Mirren as Jack Ross’ side won promotion to the Premier League.

After experiencing life under Gordon Strachan and Tony Mowbray the Italian is in no doubt about where he wants his management career to lead to.

In an interview with Italian website Agent Ianonimi he revealed:

Have you received offers to play or points to coach since you have finished the coach course? –  “Playing is enough. I do not want to play any more because the body is feeling it. It would not be fair to get involved against guys who go to triple you. I got offers to train in the youth sectors, which I already did, but I want to try with the first teams. I believe and I hope I have the right ideas to face the first teams and I’m waiting for an opportunity. “

On which bench do you see or would you like to see? –  “Undoubtedly the  Celtic . It would be the top for me. “

Celtic paid AC Milan £2m to sign Donati in the summer of 2007 with a last minute Champions League winner against Shakhtar Donetsk the highlight of his hoops career.

By the time the SPL title was won at Tannadice in May 2008 Barry Robson and Paul Hartley had become the established midfield partnership.

Donati looked to be reviving his Celtic career under Mowbray but after scoring against Arsenal in a Champions League qualifier he was sold to Bari.
