Celtic welcome back their first World Cup star

Tom Rogic has returned to Celtic after World Cup duty in Russia.

The midfielder played in all three of Australia’s World Cup matches extending his season towards the end of June.

Celtic were without Rogic, Mikael Lustig and Dedryck Boyata for the Champions League qualifier away to Alashkert which the hoops won 3-0.

Brendan Rodgers will get the club’s medical staff to assess Rogic’s fitness before deciding when he can return to first team action.

While he was in action in Russia the midfielder’s club team-mates have been put through pre-season training at Lennoxtown and in Austria where they took part in three matches.

It’s unlikely that Rogic will be involved in the return leg against Alashkert but he could be in the side to face Valur or Rosenborg in the second round of the Champions League qualifiers with the Icelandic side winning the first leg 1-0 at home.
