If, and it’s a big if, Celtic get past Rosenborg they will have one massive advantage in the third round qualifier against AEK Athens.

For reasons obvious to any holiday-maker the Green Super League doesn’t start until August 25.

When AEK Athens go into action in the third qualifying round they will be three weeks away from the start of their domestic programme.

In contrast Celtic will have played five competitive matches by the time the Greek champions arrive in Glasgow, Rosenborg permitting.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will have played four Champions League qualifiers and also the SPFL opener at home to Livingston.

The only downside is that in-between the two legs Celtic have to face Hearts at Tynecastle but other than one spectacular exception last season that venue has been a favourite in recent seasons.

If Celtic lose to Rosenborg they face a Europa League third round qualifier against Cork City with the first leg in Ireland.
