Exposed! Inside the murky world of the low level football agent

|

The murky world of football agents has been exposed today from the unlikely location of Boreham Wood!

Morgan Ferrier isn’t a name that many fans outside the National League (formerly the Conference) will be familiar with but that changed this morning!

Signed from Dagenham in February for £35,000, a fee most SPFL Premiership clubs would think long and carefully over, Ferrier, his then agent and his new club were all happy with the terms and conditions agreed.

Boreham Wood got a top player for their level, Ferrier got a good platform to play at, he gets paid regularly with the goal being to enjoy playing success to benefit the player and his club.

Last weekend the happy tale turned ugly, very ugly when a new agent got involved.

Arranging transfers between Boreham Wood, AFC Wimbledon and Tranmere Rovers isn’t going to be financially life changing but for one un-named agent it has all become a bit too much.

Boreham Wood have raised 14 different points in their complaint to the FA, most seriously the case is going to the High Court over a threat made to the club chairman. It is all explained on their website, everything.

Closing their statement the club explained:

“We absolutely apologise to the football world for airing our dirty washing in public. But we believe that there is the need to bring this type of behaviour into the public domain. As it is important and it’s high time that all non-league clubs began standing up to this agent/intermediary intimidation.

It’s now time that these unscrupulous people – as it’s not all agents – are taken to task. As they need to be regulated and this intimidation must be reported – we need to stop these intermediaries/representatives behaving in such a shoddy way and we need to get this problem highlighted. And put onto every non-league management committee’s agenda this season to sort out the problem…

In closing, after so much preparation and hard work, our whole pre-season and the whole bonding and training camp down in Barnstaple has simply been ruined – it has cost our chairman and football club tens of thousands of pounds and has been completely disrupted. Disrupted by a young 25-year-old agent who has not yet represented Morgan for even one week.

How sad is it, that for our club, our young manager, our hard-working dressing room, our very honest staff, and our loyal supporters have all been treated so badly?

With billions now swilling around English football it seems that some agents have no patience to work their way up the food chain.

Meanwhile Celtic and others attempt to find the right players, at the right price on the right deal…
