A Linfield supporting Ayrshire councillor has deleted his twitter account after being caught up in a xenophobic row.
Last July Todd Ferguson tweeted his support of the Irish club ahead of their Champions League qualifier against Celtic despite never previously showing any interest in Irish football.
Ferguson is typical of the new brand of Tory politicians that have come to light under Ruth Davidson with at best colourful backgrounds.
It seems that after the Independence referendum all sorts of undesirables have been welcomed into the Tory party.
Revealing the reason for Ferguson deleting his twitter account The National reports:
“I asked the local #SNP candidate why they supported the break up of the UK, being Dutch. The answer I got was that her partner is Scottish,” he tweeted, He then followed it up with another tweet saying, “Perhaps she forgot Market Garden” a reference to an allied military operation in the second world war, where large swathes of Holland were liberated from the Nazis.
Ferguson’s twitter account contained little about matters effecting his Dalry and West Kilbride constituency and appears to pander to far right-wing views typified by his support of Linfield against Celtic.
Despite his support for Linfield Celtic’s success in reaching the group phase of the Champions League resulted in all Premiership clubs picking up a payment of £360,000.
