John McGinn is missing from the Hibs side to play NSI Runavik tonight.

Celtic have had two bids rejected for the midfielder but his omission for tonight’s Europa League clash suggests that a deal could be getting closer.

McGinn has a year left on his Hibs contract with the Edinburgh side already smarting from losing Dylan McGeouch on a free at the end of last season.

Celtic’s second bid has been reported at around the £2m mark but with St Mirren due a third of any transfer fee the actual deal for Hibs would be less than £1.4m.

Brendan Rodgers was asked today about negotiations for McGinn but revealed that he isn’t involved in that area of the transfer.

Last summer Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town made enquiries about the 23-year-old but Lennon convinced the midfielder that his career would be better served by a season in the SPFL Premiership.

UPDATE: On Radio Scotland Lennon said that McGinn has a thigh problem but that it was inevitable that he would leave with the ball in Celtic’s court. Hibs have received a substantial bid but it hasn’t matched their evaulation.
