McGinn transfer takes new twist

Mikey Johnston has been linked by The Sun with a loan move to St Mirren.

The teenage winger demonstrated his ability with a goal in Celtic’s 4-1 win over Standard Liege but faces a tough fight to get into Brendan Rodgers’ match day squad never mind the starting XI.

St Mirren are on the lookout for a winger after Celtic signed Lewis Morgan but news of interest from the Paisley side may be a sub-plot in Celtic’s quest to sign John McGinn.

It’s believed that Neil Lennon is also keen on Johnston with Celtic able to offer a number of players as a sweetener to get McGinn on board.

Hibs seem adamant that Celtic’s second bid, believed to be around the £2m mark, isn’t enough but the prospect of losing out on Johnston could lead to Lennon putting pressure on his board to accept a loan player plus cash deal for the midfielder.

Scott Allan has been linked with a move to Hibs but Celtic wouldn’t entertain that with the midfielder in the final season of his contract.
