Brendan Rodgers is keen not to over burden Jack Hendry.

The defender was signed from Dundee during the January transfer window and ended the season as a regular in the Scotland defence.

Twelve months ago the defender was looking to get his career underway at Dens Park after two years in England trying to break through at Wigan, Shrewsbury and MK Dons.

On Wednesday Hendry will be at the heart of the Celtic defence against Rosenborg but Rodgers is wary of placing too much expectations on his shoulders.

We’ll not get too carried away, Jack has a lot of work to do still, but what he has is potential,” the Celtic boss told The Sun.

He’s a young guy who has made great strides in a short period of time in his career.

He has potential, but there is still a lot of work for him to do in both the defensive and offensive situations.

The experiences he’s had will only help him.”

Hendry’s last game as a Dundee player was a Scottish Cup tie at Inverness which left him cup tied when he arrived at Celtic.

Despite that he made a valuable contribution to the wins at Pittodrie and Ibrox, appearing as a substitute when Celtic were down to ten men.

So far his Celtic appearances have mainly been at right-back but with a mini defensive crisis he may now get the chance to form a partnership with Kris Ajer.
