After announcing the signing of Umar Sadiq on July 10 Sevco will face Osijek in the Europa League today without the Nigerian striker.

Despite more than a fortnight of intensive training under the new fitness regime it seems that Sadiq has shown the same enthusiasm for conditioning as Carlos Pena.

The nightmare performances of Alfredo Morelos appeared to open the door to Sadiq starting against the Croatians but when the squad turned up at Glasgow Airport to fly out there was no sign of the on loan Roma ace.

Despite losing Jason Cummings, Kenny Miller and Eduardo Herrera since the end of last season there was no space for Sadiq in the Sevco squad with Steven Gerrard explaining that he had been left out of the match to improve his match sharpness!

Speaking to the Daily Record the rookie Ibrox boss said: He’s probably a couple of weeks away in terms of being ready for real game time. You might see him for part of the Wigan match on Sunday but we felt it better he remain at home to be pushed by our physical trainers.

“It’s important when the supporters see new players they are ready, it would be doing them a disservice to put them in when they are not ready.”

According to a leaked report in The Sun Josh Windass, Daniel Candeas and Young McCrorie have been dropped from the side that drew 0-0 against Shkupi.
