Steven Gerrard won’t give in to the Ibrox boo-boys who are hounding Josh Windass.

The former Accrington starlet was one of last season’s success stories but that hasn’t impressed the Sevco support.

After scoring against Partick Thistle earlier this year Windass ran to his supporters with his hands cupped to his ears.

It would take back-to-back hat-tricks against Celtic to get the 24-year-old back in the good books with his substitution against Shkupi cheered by the home support.

Yeah, I felt the reaction when he came off,” Gerrard told The Sun about Windass.

Josh will deal with that, he’s a strong lad and the only way to win fans over is to score goals.

They are desperate for goals and desperate to be entertained and win games. So are we, we all feel it on the sides but I thought Josh worked his socks off and could easily have come off the pitch with a couple of goals.”

Windass has been linked with a move away from Ibrox since his dad confirmed that there was a £3m get-out clause in his contract but no offers have come in.

Sevco managed to scrape together a 2-0 win over Shkupi but could find that lead put under pressure in Tuesday’s return leg.

At this stage last season Pedro Caixinha’s side were knocked out of the Europa League by Progres Niederkorn with the former Celtic scout axed four months later.
