Kieran Tierney was back in with the bhoys for Celtic’s 3-1 win away to Partick Thistle in the Betfred Cup at Firhill.

A thigh injury ruled him out of a place On the pitch so the bhoy from Wishaw took a seat in the stand to watch Emilio Izaguirre return to first team action.

Tierney was one of six players missing from the team that lost 2-1 to AEK Athens with teenager Mikey Johnston brought in to start his first competitive game of the season.

All appeared to be going as planned when Leigh Griffiths opened the scoring midway through the first half with his 99th goal for the club.

Celtic’s laboured approached struggled to break down the Thistle defence with the home side drawing level in the 72nd minute through Andrea Mbuyi-Mutombo.

That forced Celtic to step up a level with Cristian Gamboa creating goals for Moussa Dembele and Tom Rogic to book Celtic’s place in the last eight.

Tierney is expected to be back on the pitch on Thursday for the Europa League play-off away to Suduva.
