Patrick Roberts looked less than thrilled as he kicked off the next chapter of his career with Girona in Spain.

Worse things happen than spending a season in the sun, living in Barcelona and enjoying the sights and sounds of La Liga but it’s hard to come to any conclusion other than the fact that his Manchester City hopes are dead and buried. Girona are a feeder club for City.

After making a big impact at Fulham he was off to the Etihad in a big money move but rather than find a way to starring in the City side he has been placed in a football factory with little contact or prospect of even getting a number in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

City have brought in three loan fees for the winger while Roberts has played and scored in the Champions League, picked up a full set of Scottish honours but failed to put down roots on his career. Another former Celtic loanee, Jason Denayer has had a similar ‘career’ at City.

In contrast Ryan Sessegnon at the age of 18 is closing in on his 100th Fulham appearance having resisted offers from all of the top English clubs as he gets priceless match-time experience with the London side.
