Steven Boyd was in the spotlight at the weekend with the only goal of the game as Hamilton took the honours in the Lanarkshire derby at Fir Park.

The striker was with Celtic up until u-17 level but moved to Hamilton where his development has been a bit of a slow burner involving loan spells at Albion Rovers and Livingston.

Saturday’s goal was his second in the top flight with his other strike coming almost a year earlier in a 3-0 win over Dundee.

In-between times he had a spell out on loan at Livingston and although it didn’t produce any goals he did get a taste of top team action with a side chasing promotion.

Hamilton’s 4-1 defeat from Hearts on the opening day of the season resulted in Martin Canning making changes to the side at Fir Park with Boyd introduced in the 67th minute as a substitute for Sam Kelly.

As a free kick to Accies hit the Motherwell wall Boyd simply volleyed the rebound perfectly into the corner of the net out of the reach of Trevor Carson.

The points give Accies a little breathing space, sitting three points clear of Motherwell and Dundee with Boyd in contention for a starting place in their next match- away to Celtic on August 25.
