Celtic fans have the last laugh as Hearts captain pays the price for Levein’s long grass jokes

Hearts are paying the price for Craig Levein’s long grass tactics with Christophe Berra ruled out of action for six months.

The defender caught his studs in the turf chasing Leigh Griffiths on Saturday resulting in a ripped hamstring.

Berra will be 34 in January and now faces a lengthy recuperation process as a result of Levein’s decision to grow the grass longer to halt Celtic’s passing game.

Brendan Rodgers highlighted the length of the grass at Tynecastle in May before Celtic won 3-1 despite having already clinched the title.

Levein joked about that and ensured that the grass was left uncut ahead of Saturday’s match.

After the 1-0 win Hearts tweeted a picture of the groundsman cutting the grass- that’s the same grass that Berra won’t be using again this year.

Hearts are expected to step up their interest in bringing former Sevco skipper Lee Wallace to Tynecastle.
