Celtic have ended their interest in Scott McKenna.
Aberdeen now have to deal with a defender rated at more than £3.5m committed to a contract until 2023 that is unlikely to ever pay him more than £5,000 per week.
At that sort of fee McKenna could expect a signing on fee of at least £500,000 and a weekly wage of around £20,000 per week as a Celtic player.

Following the long drawn out saga over John McGinn Celtic have opted to move on to other targets rather than allow Aberdeen to dictate terms.
A fee of £3.5m is around 25% of Aberdeen’s annual turnover and double their best ever transfer fee, received in 1996 from Coventry City for Eoin Jess.
Celtic will now turn their attention elsewhere to bolster their defence with nine days remaining in the transfer window.
McKenna is expected to be out of action for another four weeks due to a hamstring injury.
