Lyon are refusing to give up their quest to sign Moussa Dembele.

Official talks opened on Wednesday for the striker with Brendan Rodgers confirming last night that Celtic had turned down a significant offer.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas jumped the gun by going public about negotiations with Celtic, describing Peter Lawwell as a bulldog negotiator while leaking claims that personal terms had been agreed with the player.

After Mariano moved to Real Madrid Lyon are desperately looking for a new striker with Dembele among their top targets.

Footmercato reports:

What is certain is that Jean-Michel Aulas always intends to recruit the former Parisian. “It’s very complicated with Celtic for Moussa Dembélé. We will make sure to negotiate well tonight and tomorrow, and we hope that the reason will prevail, that we will have a new player to complete the transfer window, ” concluded the President Lyon onRMC Sport . The next few hours will be decisive.

Rodgers was very decisive last night that Dembele wouldn’t be sold without a replacement coming in and that that was near impossible in the final day of the transfer window.

Dembele is halfway through his four year contract with Rodgers quite open that part of the deal in signing the striker was to showcase him and move him on to a Champions League side.

Had Lyon came in a month ago for the former Fulham man a deal would probably have been completed but with Celtic failing to strengthen their squad during the summer transfer window Rodgers isn’t prepared to lose one of his top players.
