Celtic are in talks to sign Jason Denayer from Manchester City.

The defender was voted Scotland’s Young Player of the Year for the 2014/15 season while on loan at Celtic but his career has failed to kick on since then.

Brendan Rodgers made a move to sign Denayer late in last summer’s transfer window but by that stage he had committed himself to going on loan to Galatasaray.

Last season he only made 22 club appearances as he watched Dedryck Boyata take his place in the Belgian World Cup squad, thus it’s not been an overlay talked about move on the Transfer Hound.

According to Voetbal Krant Rodgers is hoping that the signing of Denayer can help convince Boyata to stay at Celtic to create an all Belgian central defensive partnership.

Denayer made his full international debut while he was at Celtic but two loan spells at Galatasaray and a season at Sunderland when they were relegated from the EPL have been disastrous for his career.

Celtic and Manchester City have had a close relationship for a number of years with Olivier Ntcham and Patrick Roberts the most recent deals between the clubs with young Australian Daniel Arzani expected to move to Glasgow on a two year loan deal.
