Brendan Rodgers has challenged the Celtic board to bring in new players before the transfer window closes.

So far Celtic have signed three players who had already played under Rodgers- Emilio Izaguirre, Scott Bain and Odsonne Edouard- plus a two year loan deal for Daniel Arzani.

The Celtic boss has gone on record about his concern about the drop in quality in his squad with the failure to sign John McGinn a particular disappointment.

Speaking to BT Sport after the 3-1 win over Partick Thistle Rodgers said: “We’ve had a couple of targets we haven’t been able to get in. But I’ll continue to work with the players, and I’ve always had a very good relationship with the board here and that’s the same. We want to improve the team and we’ve got until the end of August to do that.”

Leigh Griffiths, Tom Rogic and Moussa Dembele were on target today in a Celtic side that started with six changes from the team that lost 2-1 to AEK Athens.

Celtic have effectively balanced the books during the transfer window with the fees for Stuart Armstrong and Erik Sviatchenko matching the cost of signing Edouard from Paris Saint Germain.

As well as bringing players in a number of players are expected to be moving out including Eboue Kouassi, Scott Allan and Ryan Christie.
