Galatasaray and Torino have shelved their interest in Jason Denayer leaving the door open for a possible move to Celtic according to Voetbal Nieuws.

The defender spent the 2014/15 season on loan at Celtic but despite returning to sign a new contract for Manchester City his career has stalled following loan spells at Sunderland and Galatasaray.

Celtic appear to be in the market for a central defender but Denayer does seem reluctant to return north as his agents exploring other options.

The young defender was the star ‘signing’ of Ronny Deila’s first season, forming a formidable barrier alongside Virgil van Dijk as only Steven McLean came between the hoops and winning the treble.

Celtic did express an interest in Denayer last August when the move for Rivaldo Coetzee broke down but by that stage the 23-year-old had already committed to joining Galatasaray.

Yesterday Celtic held talks with Dedryck Boyata’s agents in an attempt to secure his transfer from the club.
