Emilio Izaguirre was given an emotional return to the Celtic first team during the 3-1 Betfred Cup win over Partick Thistle.

The defender spent last season with Al Feiha but cut short his time in Saudi Arabia where his family had failed to settle.

With Celtic still looking for a deputy for Kieran Tierney a season long deal was agreed with Izaguirre who slotted straight back into the side that defeated Thistle.

From a brilliant early pass down the wing to Scott Sinclair it was just like old times as the ‘new boy’ brought some stability and balance to the hoops defence.

Over on the opposite flank Cristian Gamboa showed all of his attacking ability to create the second and third goals for Moussa Dembele and Tom Rogic.

In the draw for the last eight Celtic will travel to face St Johnstone where Tony Watt has been making an impact, scoring twice in yesterday’s win at Queen of the South which required extra-time.
