Celtic’s reserve side were way too strong for Albion Rovers in tonight’s Jock Stein Friendship Trophy- running out 8-0 victors.

The young hoops were using the match as a warm up for next week’s Irn Bru Cup tie at Annan Athletic but next Tuesday’s match is likely to be much tougher.

It took Celtic 13 minutes to open the scoring with Ewan Henderson popping a shot in off the post from just inside the penalty box with Jack Aitchison doubling the advantage from a similar distance 10 minutes later.

Five minutes later Aitchison raced through onto a through ball to poke a shot across the keeper into the net with Kerr McInroy completing the first half scoring with an 18 yard shot that took a deflection before finding the net in the 31st minute.

After making five changes at the break it took Celtic until the 73th minute to score their fifth when Tom Caffret slid in to meet a low pass from Regan Hendry across goal.

Three minutes later Grant Savoury scored from close range with Robbie Deas making it a magnificent seven when he headed home from a corner kick. Hendry completed the scoring with five minutes left to play.

CELTIC: Mullen; Bell, Duffy, Deas, Church (Kennedy) 46; Hendry, McInroy (Coffey 46); Crossan (Savoury 46), Henderson (Mazis 46), Roberston; Aitchison (Caffrey 46)
