Michael Stewart destroyed Charlie Adam on BBC Sportsound last night as the Stoke City tried to talk up the latest Ibrox Revolution.

A 1-1 draw at Aberdeen on Sunday seemed to provide Adam with proof that this Revolution was the real deal with the current team the best for four years!

Four years ago Ally McCoist was in charge of the tribute act in the Championship before handing over to Kenny McDowall and Stuart McCall as Motherwell cruised to a 6-1 victory in the play-off.

Adam went through the usual lines about inspired signings, the Gerrard effect, playing in front of 50,000 fans and mounting the first challenge to Celtic in years.

Stewart wasn’t prepared to let that nonsense go unchallenged while excitement grew in presenter Kenny MacIntyre’s voice.

Responding, the former Hearts and Manchester United midfielder said: “To suggest that Scottish football is always about Rangers and Celtic, all the teams are going to be trying to catch Rangers – that’s a short sighted view to take on the game of football in Scotland.

“When you look at the fact that Rangers in the top flight have never finished second, I think it’s slightly disrespectful to the teams, for example Aberdeen, who have been strong for a number of years.

Adam continued in the same manner with Stewart hitting back at the sense of entitlement that comes from the Ibrox apologists and cheerleaders.

When the Stoke man mentioned the increased quality up front Stewart pushed for names and was told Umar Sadiq who apparently has an incredible reputation at Roma.

At that stage Stewart virtually gave up on trying to discuss things with Adam.

Tonight it’s expected that Sportsound will have Kris Boyd (EBT), Alex Rae (EBT) and Billy Dodds (EBT) preview the Celtic v AEK Athens match.
