Brendan Rodgers has invited Charlie Phelan back to Celtic Park for a VIP day.
The Derry based fan was the victim of an anti-Irish attack in Girvan on September 2 as he stopped to get fish and chips following Celtic’s 1-0 win in the Glasgow derby.
Details of the story emerged on social media with Police Scotland keen to avoid the obvious conclusions over the attack which resulted in the loss of sight in one eye.
Just heard some fantastic news regarding Charlie. Today he got a phone call from Brendan Rodgers. Hes talked Charlie around, into coming back to Celtic Park. He’s asked Charlie if he’d accept a VIP trip, all expenses paid to watch the Celts. What a fantastic gesture. #HH #CelticFC https://t.co/XYSVd582cB

Rodgers is very close to the travelling Irish support and got in touch with Phelan after hearing about his plight.
A go fund me page set up to raise £500 hit it’s target within a couple of hours and now stands at well over £2,000.
Celtic’s victory on September 2 was marred by incidents throughout Scotland with hoops supporters the victims for no reason other than supporting the ‘wrong’ team.
