The SPFL can save themselves a lot of heart-ache by staging the Aberdeen v Sevco Betfred Cup semi-final on Monday October 29 at Hampden.

The semi-final draw has thrown up a dilemma with Celtic and Sevco in Europa League action on Thursday October 25 with the semi-finals scheduled for the weekend of October 27 and 28.

Further complicating the issue is a full card of six Premiership fixtures on Wednesday October 31.

Playing one of the semi-finals at Murrayfield on Sunday October 28 has been suggested but that would either hand Hearts a massive advantage getting to play at what was their home stadium for much of last season or send Sevco and Aberdeen fans to the capital with the prospect of serious disorder.

If the Aberdeen v Sevco match is staged on Monday October 29 at Hampden, their fixtures for October 31 can be put back 24 hours followed by their weekend fixtures being played on Sunday November 4, Aberdeen are already down to play at Kilmarnock on that date.

The semi-final draw means that Celtic will face Hearts twice within a week with the two clubs facing each other on Premiership duty on Saturday November 3.
