Teemu Pukki is the latest former SPL flop to highlight just how average the English Championship is.
The Finnish striker was one of a long list of flop Celtic strikers in the early part of this decade proving conclusively that ‘my nan’ couldn’t score for fun up there.
Put him in a Norwich shirt however and it’s a different story with yesterdays match winner away to QPR taking him onto five Championship goals in nine appearances- three more than Championship specialist and Norwich team-mate Jordan Rhodes.
Back in 2013 Pukki was brought in as Gary Hopper’s replacement but despite a scoring debut at Tynecastle he never looked comfortable in a Celtic shirt.
Seven goals in 25 SPL appearances masked a three month goal drought from September to December as the comparisons with Hooper came to a halt.
Ronny Deila packaged the Finn off on loan to Brondby before his £3m fee from Schalke 04 was forgotten as the move to Denmark became permanent.
Norwich signed the 28-year-old when his contract expired in the summer, if Pukki maintains his scoring rate he could follow Martyn Waghorn to Derby who paid £6m for the former Sevco flop during the summer.
