Alex McLeish led Scotland to their fourth defeat in five matches with a resounding 4-0 defeat handed out by Belgium at Hampden.

A solitary win away to Hungary is all that the former Rangers (IL) boss has to his name since being reappointed as Scotland manager alongside defeats from Costa Rica, Peru, Mexico and now Belgium.

Roberto Martinez’s side didn’t need a second invite as Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard and Michy Batshuayi (2) had the visitors 4-0 up after an hour.

McLeish must now talk up a Monday night home match against Albania knowing that extending his losing record with have Scotland knocked out the new look competition barely 90 minutes in.

With an estimated tax bill believed to be in the region of £2.9m hanging over his head there is no chance of McLeish resigning from the job that was initially offered to Michael O’Neill and Walter Smith.
