BBC Scotland trying to re-write history with dinosaur Peat

|

Once again BBC Scotland are trying to re-write history in a sympathetic way to their friends at Ibrox.

Over the last year the licence payer has funded heart breaking stories from Ronald de Boer and Michael Mols in which they claimed that the disguised remuneration that they received was really a simple mistake and that they switched Barcelona and Utrecht for the thrill of pulling on a blue jersey in Govan.

Today former SFA President George Peat has been dug up for another sympathetic Ibrox piece- it seems to be the sort of non-story that the state broadcaster specialises in.

The man who led Airdrie to the brink of liquidation before jumping ship to Stenhousemuir to retain his SFA blazer has decided to rewrite history relating to the 2007/08 season.

To accommodate one team, Rangers (IL) the final round of fixtures was put back to a Thursday night!

The five other clubs in the top six were idle for ten days between their second and last fixtures while Walter Smith’s side caught up on the backlog that they created.

Perhaps Peat regrets the fact that Rangers (IL) had a match with Gretna postponed in December to prepare for a 3-0 defeat from Lyon in the Champions League.

During December Rangers (IL) picked their fixtures very carefully, they played

Celtic played EIGHT matches between December 1 and 29, during the same period Rangers (IL) played SIX matches. Included in Celtic’s fixture run was three matches in seven days- Shakhtar Donetsk at home followed by Hearts and AC Milan away in a week.

The myth of 2007/08 appears to be the forerunner of the 2012 Survival Lie.

In May 2008 every team was inconvenienced to suit the fixtures of one club, fortunately the points that Celtic dropped in December 2007 were recovered later in the season despite the problems of a Thursday night finish and ten day lag between the last two matches.
