Tom Boyd didn’t mince his words after Bobby Madden allowed a brutal assault on Odsonne Edouard to go unpunished.

There may have been some debate about whether the clash took place in or outside the penalty box but there was no mistaking the intent of Scott McKenna as the former Paris Saint Germain striker saw a chance to score open up.

With both feet off the ground the Dons defender brought play to a halt and ended Edouard’s participation in the game.

Nothing to see here thought the Grade 1 referee but Boyd had other ideas, telling Celtic TV:

It is one of the ironies of Scottish football that referees are sponsored by Specsavers but all joking aside it is a red card.

Whether it’s inside the box is debatable but it is a foul all day long. The seriousness of that foul, it endangers Edouard.

It’s an absolute nonsense from Bobby Madden, he should be ashamed of himself for not giving that decision.

Madden has a well known track record for matches involving Celtic stretching back to Neil Lennon’s time in charge.

In his first Glasgow derby appointment Madden denied Celtic a clear penalty when Clint Hill fouled Leigh Griffiths from behind as the striker prepared for s shot at goal.
