Celtic have pulled out of the deal to sign Emile Legault.

The defender spent the pre-season period training with the hoops and was involved in the Northern Ireland Super Cup win over Manchester United and the South Shields tournament the following weekend.

A three year contract was agreed with the Montreal born defender but during the period of applying for a work permit the deal has fallen through.

Legault moved to Auxerre last summer after establishing himself in the Canadian u-17 international set up.

Legault was expected to play at right-back in the Reserve League but with no loan materialising for Tony Ralston that position in the team has been taken up.

The 18-year-old was at Auxerre last season and has returned to France to pick up his career.

Celtic’s reserve side return to league duty on Tuesday when they face Morton at Cappielow.
